Today’s U.S. Cyber Attack Against Twitter, Paypal, and Netflix

I am active on Social Media and a avid Netflix watcher, so I was wondering why my Netflix and twitter accounts were not working this morning. I kept trying to resend the same tweet for 20 minutes. I restarted the internet because I noticed my Netflix was not working either. Turns out the internet was fine, I could still use google and Facebook.

It turns out that other sites were down too, few being, Paypal, Amazon, Reddit, Shopify, and many other sites.

There was a report made that the the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are investigating the cyber distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) hitting the DNS provider, Dyn. They are a New Hampshire-based Internet service company whom are a superior provider under the DNS umbrella.

What is A DNS?

Here is a quote from, Steve Grobman, a chief technology officer for Intel Security, explaining what a DNS is. “If you go to a site, say yahoo.com, your browser needs to know what the underlying Internet address that’s associated with that URL is. DNS is the service that does that conversion.”

The first attacks appear to have begun around 7 a.m. this morning and was resolved after Two Hours BUT theses attacks did not end there. They  have been coming back on and off throughout the day.
