Why Are the Famous Muslims Silent?!
Recently I wrote an article for online news publication about Aziz Ansari. The article I wrote was in relation to a article where Ansari wrote an open letter in the New York times, calling out trump for his xenophobic rhetoric… So it lead me to this question, why are more famous people in America with Muslim ties not talking out against the Racist Rhetoric we see spewing in this current election? Believe it or not, in the United States, there are quite a few famous people who are Muslims or have family members who are! So why are they not speaking out? What will it take for them to start talking? If you have privilege, I do not understand why you would not use it for people who don’t have a voice.
Why not Jelena Noira “Gigi” Hadid? She is the daughter to a Jordanian American immigrant, Mohamed Hadid and a Dutch mother.
NBC news anchor, Hoda Kotb? A Muslim who is is probably one of the most recognized Arabs in the United States. Kota has even had interviews with Trump and other republican candidates. She had
opportunities to call him out but didn’t.
NBA Hall of Famer, Kareem Abdul Jabar has spoke out against the xenophobic rhetoric in Time Magazine and at the DNC convention.
Muslim Comedian, Dave Chapelle has called out Trump in his stand up comedy.
Maybe the ones who will not talk are worried they will lose fans or their jobs if they talk about it. I think life for Muslims with no voice in America would be way better if these famous people stick out for them and spoke out against racism. If Trump were to ban Muslims from coming into our country, wouldn’t these people be banned from coming in?
